Dear readers,

During the past few years, our tiny congregation has managed to put together the Monday morning service. I thank those who make efforts within their weekly schedules and attend these services. We would like to see more people attend this service, when our major need is a minyan for this day. Following is a short poem that I have compiled from the “responses” received from community members, when approached for attendance.

I’ll try my best
I need some rest

My wife is on strike
I broke my bike

The weather is very cold
I am a member on the board
I’m sixty years old

I only belong to the social club
I don’t want to be involved

I went to the shop
I started a new job

I’m on a holiday
Why must it be on Monday?

I’m really busy
You know it’s not easy

Should we try another day?
Hey Rabbi! What do you say?

Today I am a little sick
I attended last week

I feel very weak
Please, not this week!

I am in a vocation
In a different location

I really need a good sleep
Can’t get up from a deep sleep

I am very tired
I am almost retired

I’ll ask my mother
I’ll send my brother
Please call my father.

But Rabbi, nevertheless
You will find someone else!

P.S: The above poem is not intended to aim at anyone in particular and has been compiled to give you a humorous point of view of what we desperately need to continue in our community. It also applies to Shabbat services and my shiurim.
